Indians, across the length and breadth of the subcontinent, love to eat their favourite paan (betel leaf) after a scrumptious dinner.
It is believed that this preparation made by wrapping areca nut, slaked lime and some other sweet as well as tangy ingredients in a betel leaf, aids in digestion. It is also believed to treat oral ulcers, warts, diabetes, cough and headache to name a few.
Interestingly, while it has some medicinal value, it has many a Bollywood songs dedicated to it.
However, if you think that mere making of a paan preparation is an art in itself, you should have a look at this paan being served at a wedding ceremony in India’s Hyderabad. This is undoubtedly unique for they set it on fire before pushing it into your mouth! Just like a tequila shot on fire.
Senior journalist, A. Saye Sekhar, one of the attendees of the marriage ceremony, volunteered to taste this paan on fire’.
“Apart from all regular ingredients, he puts camphor powder to ignite it. It was a very interesting experience,”said Saye Sekhar speaking to team Little Bit India.
